Qualifications

Being a leader isn't just a position, it's what you do, with or without a position. But heading into our sophomore year, we need experienced and knowledgeable individuals to lead and unify our class. To ensure you that I am capable of taking on the position of Vice President once again, here are just some of the past experiences and lessons that I've learned along the way in my past three years in leadership.

Freshmen Class Vice President

(2017-2018)

I've had the honor of serving you as your Vice President this year, and it has taught me lessons that I am incredibly thankful for. Because it was our first year of high school, we didn't really know what to expect. However, through trial and error, hundreds hours of tireless hard work at decorations meetings and dance rehearsals, and numerous buckets of paint, we were able to accomplish what would become one of the greatest freshmen homecomings of all time. I was the co-lead of the decorations meetings that would end up creating our bright and beautiful backdrop, numerous planter box decs, colorful teacher decs, and an energetic gauntlet. I was given front row seats to see our class unify as one, even though it was our first Homecoming. All we needed was the confidence to move forward and begin, and I am so glad that I was able to be there for that.

Planning and being incredibly involved with homecoming has taught me how much inclusivity and involvement matters for a class of over 500 students. This was greatly shown through the decs meetings I held, because everyone was welcome, and no one was ever forced to come. There would be plenty of weekdays and weekends where only the same few people would show up, and I would have to sit by myself for the first 30 minutes, waiting until someone came. Decs meetings were a way for me to get to know the wonderful students that make up the Class of 2021, but if we could make our class events more accessible, fun, and rewarding for everyone, we all could have that same experience!

Student Council Social Chair

(2016-2017)

In my second year of being in the Miller Leadership class, I was elected to be the Social Chair of our school Student Council. This position gave me the opportunity to lead my committee in the planning of multiple school-wide dances and social events. Planning a dance takes a lot of time and dedication--each project plan for each dance would stretch for over 30 pages, because each detail of the dance needed to be painstakingly written out on Google Docs. Being the Social Chair has largely contributed to my ability to lead and collaborate, because I needed to unify my committee to plan a whole dance. It also helped me learn how to plan large scale events, and at this point, organizing events have come naturally to me, which is great because I also absolutely love doing it!

Miller Leadership

(2015-2016)

Though it may not seem like it now, I used to be a very introverted person back in elementary school and the first year of middle school. I didn't really know a lot of people, so joining the Miller Leadership class is one of the best decisions I've ever made. I was in the green committee, where I planned school events that spread environmental awareness, and that was the beginning of my leadership journey. I planned a few projects, and helped plan the Fancy Dance, specifically the sales. Because of this class, I was given the opportunity to begin growing as a leader, which is why I am here today.
